Re: Mirena IUD Side Effects

I have had the mirina for 2.5 years now. I never had any of the problems with prolonged or exessive bleeding, opposite, I no longer get periods. The first year it was mild spotting requiring panti-liners. For the last 2 years I barely spot monthly. 6 or 8 months ago I started getting acne, which I'd never experienced before in my life. I also get chronic headaches, non-existant sex drive and find it impossible to lose wieght. Last year I gained about 10lbs suddenly, then to take it off I worked out hard 8x a week (burning around 2500-3500 calories a week) while following a 1200-1500 calorie a day diet and it took me 3 months to lose 12 lbs. Most people following that regimine would have lost at least 2x that amount of weight. I have a thyroid condition which I take daily medication for, and I thought that was the main culprit. But after this Acne thing, I thought I'd take a look on the net to see what other mirina users thought of the side effects, and now I think it is definitly a contributing factor. Any BC Pill Ive ever bene on, even the low dose ones made me gain weight and lose my sex drive, so why would this one be any different. They say its only enough to effect the uturine lining, but Ive also read if you are nursing, the hormone will be passed to baby in your milk....so who knows.

I am bummed out since this has been the most low maintenance BC method Ive been on, you never have to think about it. But this Acne sucks, and I'd like to WANT to have sex again too..... Tweet
