I have also had a horror stroy with Mirena. I also became pregnant while using Mirena and I had to have emergency surgery and lost the baby and one of my falopian tubes. I went to the doctor because I was experiencing bleeding and severe cramping one year to the date after having Mirena inserted. I had not had a period for almost a year and suddenly was bleeding. The cramping was very severe and I almost went to the emergency room because I thought I was having an apendicitis or something like that. I made an appointment with my doctor to have the Mirena checked out and make sure that it wasn't the Mirena causing the problems. While looking for the Mirena the doctor said to me " are you sure that you have Mirena inserted or that it hasn't fallen out, because I can't find it." I was horrified. She then sent me to do a urine test for something other than pregnancy, but the nurse misunderstood her and did a pregnancy test instead and found out that I was pregnant. They then rushed me to do an ultrasound and found out that the pregnancy was an epctopic pregnancy and thought that my falopian tube may have already burst and rushed me to the hospital for emergency surgery. I lost my falopian tube and was told that I should have come to the docotor sooner because after the tube burst it is only a matter of time before you bleed to death internaly. If I had known that there was a possibility of this happening I may have thought twice about this birth control.
