Re: Mirena IUD Side Effects
Yes...thanks to all who have started this post. I have had my Mirena since April 2004 which I had a no problems with or so I thought. I have hypothyroidism so weight gain is a given and weight loss is a nightmare and for a while I was okay then when I started to put on weight I thought it was my thyroid never once thinking it was the IUD. Well earlier this year I went in for my annual and they found a large grapefruit sized fibroid I then attributed the weight gain to this...I was scheduled for the laporscopic surgery the end of June by that time the fibroid had grown to about cantalope size so I had a myomectomy (sp) I was lucky in the fact that it was on the outside of my uterus so my chances of having children are good but from the research I had done the mirena was supposed to prevent fibroids and/or shrink them ?!?!?! on top of that after having a cantalope sized mass removed you would have thought I would have lost at least a pound or two ha I have still been putting on weight despite diet and exercise along with a normal thyroid.
After finding this forum I have thought about the past year and realize that it is the mirena that has made me think I turned into a hypocondriac and wonder if I had not had what the doctor spouted as the next best thing to sliced bread, which I had to pay for out of my own pocket and specifically told the Dr. I did not tolerate the pill at all, would I had to have had major surgery, suffer from mood swings, always bloated, so terribly tired, fingers, ankles, feet, legs always swollen and achy, bouts of
Depression and the weight gain that has always been a problem-crisis for me?
Dispite the fact that it has helped with my horrible cycles and is the easiest form I birth control I have found I have having it removed next Thursday and I just wanted to thank all of you for your posts and the knowledge that I am not crazy.
