Have your dad contest the charge on his credit card to freeze the charges until - (as you should insist) - the company agrees to pick the faulty machine up and properly refund you under their 1 year warranty on parts. Insist. I've had plenty of success with credit card companies stepping in getting the refund. Sometimes the manufacturer won't even bother sending for the product,but that's not your problem.
Now about the water machine, did you take it apart? Are you still trying to get it to work?
If you are still messing with it, run the water colder - by letting more water to run into the machine so that the output is not burning hot (steam coming off the spout).
