Re: Examples of people who developed chronic diarrhoea
I have the same problems and have been suffering with this for 14 years. I had my gallbladder removed at age 21 because I had 8 dime-sized stones. In the beginning, I always knew what foods to avoid - what would make me sick. Now everthing I eat makes me sick. My body is not absorbing fats as it should; however, fats are not the only foods that make my life utterly miserable - anything I eat makes me run straight to the bathroom. The last drug that I was given is Welchol which is usually used in patients with cholesterol problems. The drug is not absorbed by the body and it binds fats to itself and slows down the rate at which fat is disposed of by the body. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - needless to say eating out is OUT OF THE QUESTION. In my case it did not get better - IT GOT WORSE! You have to be careful when taking Welchol if you are taking other medications. Welchol will also bind other meds to itself and you may not get the full effect of your other prescription medications.
The back pain was truly unbearable at times, but my doctor prescribed Tezanidine 4.5mg and this really helps with the pain.
I have also been diagnosed with a Hiatal Hernia and GERD. The GERD is more than likely caused by the hernia, but my doctor chooses to do nothing. My throat burns like fire and I spend 20-30 minutes every morning coughing (acid can be aspirated into the lungs and I think that is what is happening because I have severe pains on the left side of my chest). On top of all of this - there is the pain from the actual hernia. It doesn't hurt all of the time, but when it does it is very painful. The doctor put me on Protonix which did nothing, then Aciphex which also did nothing. The only thing that helped a little was Prevacid and now it doesn't seem to work anymore either.
I don't know if any of these problems are related - I only know that I didn't have problems like this until after I had my gallbladder removed.
