I had my gall bladder out when I was 13, which was 17 years ago, and I still have this problem from time to time. Sorry if that's discouraging to those now suffering.
The saddest part is, nobody ever warned me that this would be a problem, and nobody ever linked it to gall bladder surgery until a few years ago when a gynecologist noticed I'd had the surgery when looking over my chart. She casually asked if I'd had any problems with diarrhea. I was stunned that my occasional problem went all the way back to that.
In my case, this problem actually didn't even start up until a few years after the surgery, and then only intermittently, but boy was it fun to spend half my prom night in the bathroom!
Fortunately, I have figured out a few things that help me keep the diarrhea away, so I figured I'd share them here in case they might help someone else. First, I never skip meals - a skipped meal pretty much guarantees that the next time I eat, I'll be running for the bathroom within minutes of finishing eating. I try to eat something, even if it's just a few crackers or a piece of bread, even a glass of milk or fruit juice, every 2.5 hours. I've had lots of luck with this.
The only other thing that still sets me off, besides skipped meals, is if I eat an absolutely huge meal, and especially if it particularly fatty. I've learned to make myself two plates on Thanksgiving - one to eat right away, and one to take home for the next day - that way I don't feel like I've missed out on the feast, but I'm also able to enjoy the after dinner poker game instead of monopolizing the bathroom.
