I had my gallbladder removed in Feb 2003. The first 3 days I was in a lot of pain, but that was expected. However, after that it hurt just to move, or even to breathe. After a week the pain was still there and I was practically bed-ridden. When I developed a fever I went back to my surgeon. It turns out that the fever was from a urinary tract infection which is common for women after having a catheter in during surgery. The pain I had in my side and abdomen when I breathed or moved was caused by a torn muscle along my right rib. I probably tore it in the first couple days post-surgery, trying to get myself out of bed or something. The doctor prescribed muscle relaxers and after 2 days I was fine. If you're having these problems you might want them to check your muscles. I thought I would know if I had torn a muscle, but the pain is masked and confused by the post-surgery pain. I hope this helps. :)
