Re: GAS model outdated and inaccurate...

I'm still not seeing where Dr. Selye says what happens to the adrenals in stage 3. Do they shrink? Return to normal size? Does he even comment about the adrenals not being able to keep up with the output of cortisol needed?

It looks like Dr. J. Wilson just took Dr. Selye's GAS model and morphed it a bit.

For your situation, I recommend not guessing how much you were eating, especially since you were very active doing tri's because you're calorie output from all our exercising could very well have been more than your calorie intake which is another form of calorie-restriction. All the symptoms you mentioned, lack of libido, energy crashes, hypopglycemia, can be caused by calorie-restriction. The biggest cause of hypoglycemia that I can tell is calorie-restriction. Your body is simply running low on glucose.

Did you often have a lot of food cravings at night and needed a snack in the middle of the night?

Since your were an athlete, a diet with too much fat & protein and not enough carbs could have been a factor too. Did you see my thread about what the macro ratio is of the elite Kenyan marathon runners? Their diet is mostly carbs and sugar.
