I think if you restrict yourself to these alone (fruits/roots/whole grains), you miss out on some excellent nutrition from other foods like nuts/seeds, fish, lentils, legumes (for a little variety) and so fourth.
Although I agree carbs in those sources are excellent and needed.
I like Dr. Weils diet plan the best. Healthy, well-balanced.
