Re: GAS model outdated and inaccurate...
If you look around the forum, there are many people that feel better by taking some external adrenal hormones.
I took progesterone for 7 years and it was a big help, mostly for anxiety. I don't take it anymore. Lots of people take a low dose of hydrocortisone just to function. Marie64 needed to take HC to function for several years. Same for Faith, she just had a crash and had to take external HC recently, and noticed an improvement. Laredo leads an active life now, but still takes pregnenolone.
if lots of people feel better by taking replacement adrenal hormones.... it seems like the adrenals are having trouble keeping up.
Plus.... it actually shows up on saliva tests. I had low progesterone on a saliva test, which is why I tried using progesterone cream., I had high cortisol in the morning, but low cortisol in the afternoon. I think that explains the afternoon energy crash many mention.
Faith also mentioned she was tested and found to be low in Aldosterone, the adrenal hormone responsible for sodium retention. Craving salt is a classic AF symptom. It is the low sodium that leads to dehydration and low blood pressure as well.
I have no idea how adrenal glandular supplements work. But many people say it gives them more energy. There was a post today from a person who felt great for 2 years taking adrenal glandulars, but crashed when they suddenly stopped.
As far as rebuilding.... I don't know to be honest. There might be some structural damage that never heals. I am slowly getting better, but I likely will never go back to doing triathlons.
