Of course there are conspiracies all over the world, there always have been (they're not THEORIES, they're SCHEMES of the powers that be, Illuminati), but that doesn't mean that TRUTH does not exist. TRUTH is viewed by society/humanity as irrelevant, that is why Pilate said to Jesus "What is truth?". Out of all the names that can be found in scripture for the origin of the human race (the creator), the most important is "I am who I am" because we (humanity) are His children/offspring and should be like Him knowing who we are (this is the only true consciousness) and we should NOT allow "social control" of ourselves. Not allowing social control of ourselves IS true Christianity, so I don't differ with you on your understanding of the need to retain our own mind.
It is very reasonable to believe that "the powers that be" have plans for us (because they definitely do), but only as long as they have need for us (little consolation), but that doesn't mean we should discard truth, it may be considered functionally irrelevant to society (human nature is that we all have schemes and designs on each other, we're in competition with each other), but truth must remain significant to our own conscience in order to know who we are and be as "I am who I am". Being settled in our conscience by being true to ourselves regardless of environment, background/past or present issues is the only way we can enjoy life. It is a crime against [personal] our own humanity (a shame) to let fear of the "powers that be" prevent us from realizing a settled conscience and being true to ourselves.
Of course, it makes little sense to simply acknowledge that there is such a thing as "truth" and restrict yourself to its benefits only while your on this earth but in order to extend its benefits into the afterlife (eternal life), for the real truth is "The Lamb of God", "I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the [everlasting] life..." (John 14:6).
There will always be "the powers that be" (or Illuminati, call them what you wish), but only on this earth.
