Re: Anyone have advice for regaining digestion after raw vegan diet?Beyondveg.com!!!!
hello, I have been on the raw dit for about 8 months and I want to share my little experience.
In the beginning I ate lots of honey, dried fruits, avocadoes and nuts, but I had bad candida overgrowth and various health impairments(including cavities). I then looked into the fruitarian approach... basically I lost 10 lbs ( I was slim already,so I got very skinny) when sticking to a 80-10-10 diet (mostly fruit, low fat raw diet).
I agree with the poster who said that there is no good reliable source of protein while on this diet. I was eating myself up.
Since the end of August I have been eating also 1 cooked meal a day and it usually is cooked legumes and/or vegetables, but I have real trouble digesting them ( acid reflux, headaches and sleepiness after eating, sometimes also constipation), so I have to eat them in small amounts and keep them well spaced from fruit meals.
I have discontinued eating large amounts of acidic fruit, and I now focus on bananas figs and other dense fruits which seem to work fine for me. Bananas have lots of protein and are much better digested than nuts or seeds. I am eating about 10 a day and feel fine about it, so I would suggest them as s a staple food to everyone who is trying to live on a mostly raw diet. Just make sure that they are very well ripened and balance them by eating some
Celery stalk ona a daily basis ( to balance the potassium intake with sodium from celery)
Good Luck
