Re: Anyone have advice for regaining digestion after raw vegan diet?

Hi nglassman,

This is supposed to be a support forum, but I think it should be okay to discuss the dangers/benefits/purpose of a raw vegan diet, especially since you've had the experience.

I think you're absolutely right about the tastebuds. We humans have evolved to eat what tastes good and feed our tastebuds. I definitely see myself going down the same path as you did pertaining to the fruits and nuts, but maybe it could be avoided if the nuts/dried fruits are soaked. After all, the whole "raw" objective is to eat live foods, so that could be where I'm making my mistake. I've posted my general diet here previously, maybe we can compare:

I while back, I spoke with someone who had heard about my diet and he mentioned that his mother worked in a sort of health clinic for immigrants from a country in Africa (a little vague, Africa is HUGE, but I can't remember where). The immigrants had a diet of nuts and vegetables, but their main source of protein where insects. Many of them had weak muscles (supposedly) from a low protein diet. (I don't exactly remember his entire argument). But, he said it is because nuts and vegetable/fruit proteins are very simple and our body needs to break down complex proteins (I'm guessing we'd get complex protein from meat). Well, I still haven't found any info to back up what he says, but it's interesting. I'm not going to go eat grasshoppers and beetles anyway, unless maybe they were dipped in some organic cocoa and coconut oil (j/k). Talkin' about eating insects, it is really common in many places. I just found out about this insect that has this gland underneath its wings that is very sweet and fragrant. In Thailand, people chop it up and put it in sauces for flavor. (I'm not encouraging anyone to go eat bugs by the way).

When you saw raw wheat, do you mean wheat sprouts?

When you say you're digestion is impaired, it could be from candida overgrowth. But, do you think that it could also be from a weaker bile flow? Three years seems like a long time for it to not get back to normal though, so I'm not sure.

Also, have you seen any naturopaths/chiropractor/accupuncturist? They're expensive, that's why I haven't gone yet (been raw vegan since June), but I do think it's really important to get advice from someone who can really help you find out what your body is going through.

Okay is post has gone far enough :). Let me know what you think...
