Re: Re Re Re A whole lemon working better than ascorbic etc. C,
Hi Lorica,
While it is true that it is the chloride part of salt that primarily causes the water retention [and associated higher blood pressure], for myself I have to believe it would not be a healthful thing for the body to have to excrete multi-gram amounts of sodium, day-in and day-out, year-in and year-out. On the other hand, I [obviously] do have to "excrete" [in some fashion and/or another] large amounts of "acid" daily. It is my understanding, that this WEAK acid is much easier to excrete from the body [primarily via respiration] than the heavier minerals.
That not withstanding, I DO believe sodium ascorbate to be a VERY health promoting supplement [just not as health promoting as ascorbic acid, GRAM-FOR-GRAM]. But hey, I could be wrong! I am basing that primarily upon Dr. Cathcart's quote [that he could not achieve the "ascorbate effect" with sodium ascorbate ORALLY (because of it having only one-half as many electrons, gram-for-gram, as ascorbic acid)], and additionally, my now 20 years of personal experience.
But I DO believe you will be well served health-wise, Lorica, by ingesting a LOT of sodium ascorbate daily [from my view, a Bowel Tolerance dose of it], i.e. I suspect the health benefits would FAR outweigh any [possible] health negatives [IF they even exist].
Best wishes,
David
