Re: Re Re Re A whole lemon working better than ascorbic etc. C,

Hi Lorica,

For a fact, I currently [and for at least the past year] ingest 75 to 100 grams of ascorbic acid [tablets] EVERY day [in 10 to 15 divided doses].

I am not a chemist, biologist, or doctor, and cannot definitively answer your question/concern [about urine pH]. My guess is that a STRONG acid uses up the body's alkaline buffer [when being neutralized and excreted], whereas a WEAK acid does not, i.e. so even if one's urine turns acidic after ingesting ascorbic acid, that not only does no harm to the body, but I suspect it is actually beneficial for/to it, e.g. the kidneys, bladder and urethra, etc. One thing is for sure: How could ascorbic acid have produced the virtually miraculous results it has, in virtually every health malady known to man, if it made the body [overly] acidic? Whatever the pH Science is, the results seem quite clear, both for me personally [I have ingested in the neighborhood of over 800 pounds of the stuff over the past 20 years, with VERY good health to show for it], and for so many thousands of others.

Intravenous sodium ascorbate is pH neutral to slightly alkaline, so it would cause no acidic urine. However, it is used [generally] only in medical emergencies, e.g. can you imagine how much excess sodium my body would have had to excrete these past 20 years if I have been ingesting all of my ascorbate in the sodium form? And, to get the SAME number of electrons [which are the PRIMARY healers], I would have had to ingest DOUBLE the amount of hydrogen ascorbate (ascorbic acid) I ingested [vs. the mineral ascorbate].

They can not use ascorbic acid intravenously, because the body buffers the blood to a very narrow range [outside of which we die very quickly]. But remember, the animals all produce pure ascorbic acid in their livers [or kidneys], i.e. not a mineral ascorbate.

I experimented a few years back extensively with alkalis, e.g. bicarbonates, citrates , and hydroxides. Yes, they ARE [all] antioxidants, i.e. do provide those "free"/extra/alkalinizing/toxin neutralizing/antioxidizing ELECTRONS. But, ascorbic acid is a VERY powerful antioxidant, e.g. reduces and is re-reduced very rapidly and easily, whereas the alkalis are not. Additionally, the bicarbonates and citrates have the burden of the extra mineral that must be eliminated, i.e. one cannot safely and healthfully ingest these in very LARGE quantities over a lifetime, without an extensive burden on the eliminatory organs of the body. The hydroxides seem promising, in that [I estimate] they have 4 to 5 times the electrons, gram-for-gram, available for the body [compared with ascorbic acid]. The problem here is that they cannot be ingested in quantities of more than about one gram per day. There is no other substance [on earth], at least that I am aware of [after MUCH research] that can be ingested in large, i.e. therapeutic, doses, over a long period of time, i.e. a lifetime, other than ascorbic acid. And its track record has more than PROVEN its incredible worth!

I check my saliva pH every morning [typically in the 7.2 range {on average), but it has varied to between a low of 6.4 to a high of 8.0+], but have never checked my urine pH. Frankly, my health, i.e. how I FEEL, day-in and day-out, is just too good for me to worry about it! That's why, Lorica, you have felt "no worse from being so acidic all day" when ingesting ascorbic acid. By whatever means it works, be it electrons and/or some [or MANY] other modalities [in the body], I think the evidence shows it is an absolutely miraculous substance and a health "panacea!"

I definitely have to question Levy's "10X's better than IV/C" assertion(s), but how would I know for sure? Maybe in the coming years, more data will be available. And I do share your concerns about his commercial ties with Livon Labs!

I would like to quote one sentence from the article you referenced [which I have had on my computer for years and have read a number of times], "Does taking large quantities of an acid, even a weak acid like ascorbate, tip the body's acid balance (pH) causing health problems? No..." I would say that would HAVE to be true for hydrogen ascorbate to have accomplished the things it has for so many people's health.

Your questions [and concerns], Lorica, are all excellent. Please continue to post them until they are ALL resolved!

My very best wishes,

David

P.S. If I EVER do not respond to a question you ask me in one of your posts, it means I did not know about it, and I would request that you kindly PM me. Thank you.
