Re: Re Re Re A whole lemon working better than ascorbic etc. C,
Hi Lorica,
Okay, I just finished the movie. It's obviously an issue that stirs many peoples emotions!
I will just say this: Rudyard Kipling wrote, "East and West will never meet!" I think the same applies to scientific thought and religious thought. It is, for instance, like a tiger trying to communicate with a shark. Their viewpoints [based upon their own individual experiences], about how the world is composed, are just too far apart to be reconciled [or communicated]. As expounded in my previous post, I believe some [or a lot] of BOTH! I think either view, when taken to EXTREMES, makes for a lot of illogic [and downright foolishness]. To me, I think "Intelligent Design" using an evolutionary process makes the most sense. I will leave it at that.
As far as how the system bullies and censors those ideas that [and people who] are against the "mainstream," that has been "politics as usual" throughout ALL of human history! I am more familiar with the "Pharma-Medico Mafia," but am not surprised to see it in this issue also. I think the following exchange between Albert Einstein and a high school student is instructive:
"If I would be a young man again and had to decide how to make my living," he wrote to The Reporter magazine, "I would not try to become a scientist or scholar or teacher. I would rather choose to be a plumber or a peddler in the hope to find that modest degree of independence still available under present circumstances." -- Albert Einstein, November 18, 1954...."I am a senior at Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn and am now preparing to enter college. I have always been interested in
Science and was hoping to continue my education in college in the scientific field. I recently read in the newspaper that you stated that if you were again a young man facing the future that you would not choose the scientific field but that you would rather be a tradesman such as a plumber or an electrician. I am naturally very disturbed about this as you have been my idol and I am wondering if you have been misquoted by the newspaper. Won't you please answer this letter and help me in this matter." -- Letter to Albert Einstein from Bob Moss (age 16), December 10, 1954...."Dear Sir: I received your letter of December 10th. Baruch Spinoza was wholly devoted to the striving for truth and knowledge. But he refused a professorship at the University of Heidelberg and preferred to earn his living as a lens-grinder in order to keep his independence. One can well compare the present situation with that of Spinoza's time. Sincerely yours, (signed) A. Einstein." -- Albert Einstein letter to Bob Moss, December 11, 1954
As the old adage goes, "He who pays the piper CALLS the tune!" It has always been that way [in this world], and [probably] always will be.
At any rate, Lorica, I thank you for pointing me toward some interesting material.
Best,
David
