Re: Circumcision - a male view

I am a circumcised male in my mid 20s. I was circumcised when I was 14 because my foreskin was too tight and would not retract properly. I live in the UK where circumcision is not the norm. I am not going to comment on routine circumcision in the US as I know little about it. Nor shall I pass judgement on any religious group. What I will do is tell you what it is ACTUALLY like to be circumcised, without prejudice, hearsay or inaccuracies. It may surprise you to hear that despite my affliction I lead a normal life. (That was sarcastic by the way).

First lets dispel some myths. My penis was easy enough to clean before, it needs no cleaning beyond normal showering now. This is not a reason for or against circumcision. It is a minor pont.

My penis does not tilt to one side. After years of using communal changing rooms and showers at school and university I have never seen a circumcised penis that tilts.

I do not have a feeling of tautnes in my penis. I had that before I was cut, that's why it was done.

My penis did not lose any length. This is a ridiculous suggestion. The foreskin covers the glans. When erect there is no diffrence because the foreskin retracts. When flacid, penis size changes with fluctuations in temperature. Often (and in my case it did) the foreskin overhangs the end of the glans by a fraction. Losing a few millimetres of loose skin does not equate to a massive reduction in penis length. (And before anyone jumps down my throat I realise the foreskin is more than a few millimetres long, I was reffering to extra length beyond the tip of the glans).

I have never suffered a urinary infection and am no more likely to than an uncircumcised male. (It is still open at the end after all)

I do not think my penis looks weird. None of the women I have slept with have thought it looked weird. I like the way my penis looks.

The skin of my glans is not hard and leathery. It is soft and pink. I have plenty of sensitivity and am perfectly happy with my sex life.

I object to the suggestion that women suffer because circumcised men use their penis like a 'blunt instrument'. This is a ridiculous statement. A circumcised penis is no more likely to cause a women discomfort during sex than an uncircumcised one. As I said above, I have plenty of sensitivity.

If you object to routine circumcision that's fine, but demonising circumcision itself is wrong. Millions of men are circumcised and happy. Spreading rumours, lies and proppaganda helps no one. If I had read these posts when I was 14 I would have been terrified. Instead I listened to my doctor and everything he said turned out to be true. It's horrible to think there is something wrong with you or that you are missing a vitally important part of your body. Young men have enough to deal with.

I was good friends with a Jewish guy at school. In the first few years he got severely ridiculed for having 'half his c**k cut off'. The guys doing the bullying clearly had no idea. By the time we got to year 10 and had to start showering after games the bullying had died out, and everyone could see if they wanted to that it didn't make a diffrence. The bullying still hurt though.

It's fine to have an opinion about circumcision. This post represents my opinions and experiences. If you are against routine circumsision, fine. A lot of circumcision isn't routine. There are a lot of happy, healthy unbiased circumcised men around. Demonising it and spreading lies will do more harm than good, the content of some of these posts almost ammounts to persecution. That is wrong. Base your case on proper arguments, not scare stories or what your friends told you. Reading the above almost made me think there was something wrong with me.

There was something wrong with me.

Now I am circumcised there is nothing wrong with me.

Think about it.
