Re: GOD versus religion - my 2c worth

Very interesting to see that you have found out this by your own exeperience, and I bet you live in a society where believing in God is almost an obligation more or less. So chalk one up for your awareness then, even more.

I have been raised as a Christian too, just because it was like that in my culture, but I have never been obliged to be a Chritian or believe anything if I didn't feel it was my way, that's a very good thing to be free and have the choice, a chance.

Then I have studied a lot about the other cultures and religions, especially about the different tribes of Indians in America, and I became aware and this is obvious and well known by the anthropologists that a society develops its beliefs and religion according to its environment and its economic model, and not the contrary.

Thus you can see that the tribes of the plains whose economy depended on the buffalows had beliefs (still have for some) and a genesis and rites around the buffalows (black buffalow woman of the Lokatas is like the Virgin for the Christians), the tribes of the south, living in the desert and whose economy depended on the corn considered the Sun as the divinity, the one which rules and you have to pray and fear, because if the sun shines too hot and too much, then there is no corn growing ...and the tribe is starving, so the religious rites were about the corn flour, and the sun ....

Of course, it would be so nice to belive that those people were just dumb and that the western people are soooooo evolved compared to them, right ? easy, no ?

For my part, I don't see what is wilder in believing that God is the sunshine, or the wind than believing that the mother of Jesus was a virgin who never knew a man ... I don't buy this one. And why, pray , wouln't she be able to conceive her child normally with a man ?
Oh, maybe the men who rewrote the story of Jesus in the middle age, for some reasons, didn't want to say that the womanhood was good and the woman is the equal of the man, because they wanted to have their own religion, so to rule the others. So they had to say that the woman, the desire, lovemaking between a man and a woman was BAD. So they have develped there misogunous cultaround the idea that sex is bad so that the woman is evil (I wonder if they weren't gay, simply).

And what to say about the genesis, Adam and Eve, how come there is no mention of the evolution from the ape to the human being, and what about the dynosaurs, then ? well, maybe when they wrote the story they just didn't have found the squeletons yet and no evidence of the evolution of the species and the planet ?

I, too, prefer to refer to buddhism where there is tolerance, and positive thinking, instead of those religions that spread the wrong idea of GOOD or BAD ... RIGHT or WRONG ... BLACK or WHITE ... and if you don't obbey, then you die. This is all soooo human !!! rule the others and impress them so they obbey to you and you can benefit from their ignorance.

Religion is only a mean for a society to build tabboos and rules that people have to follow, so to assure the social cohesion.

Anyway, the religion and God is only something that men have to invent because of their fear of death. While you don't fear death, you don't need to trust nor fear any God, you just live.

I recommand you the reading of Epicurus doctrines about religions and Gods and Godesses.
