Re: peeling lips (off topic)

I have a similar guilty feeling when i pull the dead skin off but it would be impossible to go day to day life without doing so.

I managed to leave my lips to exfoliate on their own accord
for 21 days.I was planning to go a whole month but had mis-calculated the amount of food i would need so had to end the experiment prematurely.
I made sure nothing came in contact with them at all over this period i was extremely careful when brushing my teeth and likewise when eating.I drank through a straw and used baths instead of showers when washing using a flannel on my face taking care not to get my lips wet.

Mixed results really.
The top and least affected lip exfoliated a few layers of skin over the weeks each one taking a longer period of time than the last and i noticed the layers were becomming thinner leaving a more desirable appearance underneath.

The bottom lip was similar except for a section in the middle which became thicker and refused to peel.

It was hard work staying in all the time but i managed to busy my self and found satisfaction in not fussing over my lips for the first time since it began.I had almost forgotten what this feels like.

So now ,after washing the dead skin off,my lips do appear to be a LITTLE bit better. The affected area is the same but
the peeling appears thinner and less dramatic if only slightly.
Perhaps this is due to letting them peel on their own accord (forfilling some kind of healing process)or perhaps the fact they haven't been soaked in moisturisers and saliva/water etc has helped.I suppose the next test is will it last.

It's made me wonder if the initial cause could have as much to do with having been constantly wet as much as being picked etc.

It's definatly given me some new questions to talk to my derm about and now i can rule out the contact allergy idea aswell!

The other thing is that perhaps the fact i haven't been around people,on public transport and in offices etc, where i am most aware of my condition, has helped with the possible anxiety/stress connection.

I am going to work in europe for the next couple months, something i should be looking forward to but in all honesty am not particually, after which i will try another stint indoors for something like 5 or 6 weeks. This seems drastic but i feel this time will confirm or disprove my thinking.

The saga continues........
