This young news reporter doesn’t seem to be aware of Atlantic ocean pollution. SALT usually foams up white and in small patches that dissipate soon after forming because they simply drain away with the water, but this is almost like foam insulation that doesn’t dry or coagulate. Thanks Paulette~~I am not suffering, especially since a herd of strong men came and removed the tree from our roof. That means the holes are now tarped and we are not in danger of it doing further damage. Everyone kept saying, do not even touch the tree since they felt it could take out the middle part of the house, down to the ground. We still have a ”hot” wire laying across the drive. I had seen some of those pictures....especially the one of the fish caught in the fence and the one of the one surviving house in that one area. There is still a lot of suffering in Texas. I have only gotten out once myself since we were prepared with food and water and fuel to stay put. My neighbor however has gotten out and was saying how grim things are. Ten miles from here, a man was killed over a bag of ice. Hi Zoe, It’s usually the afterwards part of the hurricane that sucks the most. My husband has been through several, when he lived in the Keys, including Irene, and Andrew. Getting through a hurricane can be really hard if you aren’t in a strong structure. It’s also hard to get out of town and evacuate, that’s often dangerous as well. At least it will be getting close to daylight when it gets near you, so you’ll be able to see what’s coming in your direction. We bought a house with a bunch of big oaks, and one by one we’ve trimmed them, but trees are always a worry. I’m not sure ...

Absolutely, I am to the west of Conroe and it looks like the eye could go right over them. The wind bands now are blowing very hard from the north. On the weather they are telling everyone in a mobile home which an RV would qualify as, to get out of it. Even as far north as Brenham, or Magnolia, they are recommending that. Is there is time for them to get out?? If they are close to me, they could come here for the night just so they would not be in an RV in the middle of a hurricane. I looked on the models and could see why my neighbor said it was confusing. Looks like the eye would pass right over us and so hard to know until the winds come whether it is the dirty or clean side. Hubbie’s been through one with storm surge, the water rises very quickly, and it’s everywhere, until it stops. It fills everything up very quickly, and there are lots of whirl pools everywhere. It sounds like you are far enough inland that you won’t have to worry about that. Sunny5000 in Sugarland south of Houston gets it first, then Zoe north of Houston. It’s due to move straight up I 45 to Dallas, then turn right towards Little Rock. Looks like it’ll be a Cat 1 (winds at 75-95 mph) when it hits me tomorow afternoon, but I’m on a hill so no worries except tree damage and possible power outages. You will get a tremendous amount of wind (tornadoes) and rain. The west side is the ”good” side of the storm to be on. When Katrina hit, NO was the projected hit, but at the last few minutes Katrina wobbled a little to the right and hit my state. So, expect Ike to wobble just a little before he makes landfall. The evening news was hopeful for us. We should just be in the way of a tropical storm, and for you, Hannah is weakening. My prayers are really for those directly along the Gulf and who have chosen to ride out the storm. I am hoping they realize the storm itself will be more severe than Katrina. I recently recieved a letter from FEMA offering to reimburse me for any transportation costs associated with relocating over 55 miles away from my original address. I was puzzled by this. I called and found out that the most I could receive is $4000.00. I would have to provide them with receipts to show that much and I could not have used a private vehicle to make the trips. I have lived in New Orleans so I am biased against the city, like the rest of the state. At Kelly USA, San Antonio, TX, several weeks ago a friend’s church group went there to ’help’ the victims evacuated from NO. He was very suprised when a large black woman came up to him and roughly demanded ”where is my new house”? He was taken back with this mild verbal hostility and told her that it was waiting for her back in NO. They said that their in-laws family who lived near Lakeview area(not far from levee breach) heard a very loud noise (they described it as very loud cracking noise), and then water started pouring in shortly after.
