Re: No bread - then why in the Bible?
Hi Marnie -
I read your post and would like to offer an analogy I like to give to moms like yourself who feel that they cannot control what the children buy/eat, etc.
Let me preface this by saying I have 5 kids...12,12,8,7,4.
They are FORBIDDEN to buy anything but bottled water and pretzels at the after school community house they go to for fun. They know if I find out they buy sugar, candy, etc they are grounded. And if they did buy junk (My other kids would gleefully rat the others out) I would ground them, sticking to it.Usually, I pack them healthier snacks in their backpacks with a bottle of water. LUCKILY, we live near a "Whole Foods Market" which offers much healthier alternatives for the situation.
Here is what I say to moms:
You are driving the car....You have control of where the car goes, but only for so long....Evenutally, the children will grow up and drive their own car, and you will really have no say as to what they do. HOWEVER, YOU are now still driving the car, hence, deciding what the rules are - while your driving, that is....
SO then I say.............................................
Why don't you just give them the keys to the car?
If you are going to give the children the power to decide these very important matters, you may as well give them the keys to the car and let them drive.
Get in the backseat.
Go ahead... they're driving anyway, so just hand them over the keys and hop in the back. Make sure you got your seatbelt on, though because it's going to be a rough ride!!
(I do this better in person. Writing doesn't have the same effect!!) ;)
