Re: No bread - then why in the Bible?
Thank you Trapper/kcmo - that's kind of the answer I was looking for -
Quote: i do know that what passes for grain today is not what the ancients used, or even recently like in europe. i quit eating wheat because the gluten was rough on me. i get along fine with spelt, pure organic spelt, and i hear that kamut is the grain of the bible and ancient egypt. Unquote
How close is spelt to kamut? Is kamut even available today? I've perused my local health store, and though I've found it lacking in a lot of things, I still have never heard of kamut. Since you use spelt, obviously you are okay with this - MH - what is your take on spelt? I have heard of it in many health forums, but I have never tried it. My problem at this point is that our diet is so incredibly bad that I know I have a long road ahead of me in changing my family's eating habits. If I thought it would work, we would switch immediately to all fruits, berries and nuts and nothing more - but I know that will be a disaster in my household. The rebellion would certainly be strong! If I had the support of my husband it would be helpful to say the least - but I don't. So I'm reading everything I can get my hands on so I can make better choices for my family - and looking for healthy substitutes to use where I can to "wean" them off of the unhealthy stuff and onto healthy stuff.
Thanks again!
Marnie
