Re: thanks for your vote of confidence

everything i have come across sounds like old wives tales. they say that it is a root that is in the shape of a man. they also say that it screams like a man when it is pulled from the ground. here is the reference in genesis. reuben is one of the twelve sons of jacob, later called israel, and he is the father of the tribe of the same name. this is a very peculiar passage.

Gen 30:14 And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.
Gen 30:15 And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken away my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to-night for thy son's mandrakes.
Gen 30:16 And Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for I have surely hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.
Gen 30:17 And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob a fifth son.

there is one other mention in the bible, in the song of solomon:

Son 7:1 How beautiful are thy feet in sandals, O prince's daughter! Thy rounded thighs are like jewels, The work of the hands of a skilful workman.
Son 7:2 Thy body is like a round goblet, Wherein no mingled wine is wanting: Thy waist is like a heap of wheat Set about with lilies.
Son 7:3 Thy two breasts are like two fawns That are twins of a roe.
Son 7:4 Thy neck is like the tower of ivory; Thine eyes as the pools in Heshbon, By the gate of Bath-rabbim; Thy nose is like the tower of Lebanon Which looketh toward Damascus.
Son 7:5 Thy head upon thee is like Carmel, And the hair of thy head like purple; The king is held captive in the tresses thereof.
Son 7:6 How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!
Son 7:7 This thy stature is like to a palm-tree, And thy breasts to its clusters.
Son 7:8 I said, I will climb up into the palm-tree, I will take hold of the branches thereof: Let thy breasts be as clusters of the vine, And the smell of thy breath like apples,
Son 7:9 And thy mouth like the best wine, That goeth down smoothly for my beloved, Gliding through the lips of those that are asleep.
Son 7:10 I am my beloved's; And his desire is toward me.
Son 7:11 Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field; Let us lodge in the villages.
Son 7:12 Let us get up early to the vineyards; Let us see whether the vine hath budded, And its blossom is open, And the pomegranates are in flower: There will I give thee my love.
Son 7:13 The mandrakes give forth fragrance; And at our doors are all manner of precious fruits, new and old, Which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.

you might find more about them, but i am not sure what they are.
