Re: Mirena IUD and depression?

I have the same problem. I have had Mirena for about 6 months now, but the Depression thing has been different with me. I was diagnosed as a manic depressive before getting the IUD, but have been on different birth controls since age 15. I have also gained a significant amount of weight (near 20lbs), which I am pretty sure is due to the Mirena and Depo-Provera that I was on before hand. My Acne is simply uncontrollable. I have used every over-the-counter Acne med & wash - and it only seems to make it worse. Also was on Tetracycline for the breakouts, but it only caused more problems - yeast infections. I'd like to have the thing removed - but now I no longer have insurance and can't afford it. I haven't had a period since I got the thing (but I did have 2 very long weeks of severe cramping after insertion) However, any type of birth control is going to make you moody. I am on Zoloft for my PMDD (which I don't know when my period is since I no longer have one - and the Zoloft doesn't help a whole lot with the mood swings) but roughly 2 weeks out of the month are worse for me. Other than it's effectiveness, I wouldn't recommend Mirena to anyone. Too many side effects. I guess people like us just have to live with it.
