I have been having spotting for 8 days each month and my period is only 2 days but very heavy (have to change super tampon every hour and a half or else leakage). I had paraguard twice. The first time it perforated. ( I was nursing for a long time and my uterus and such was so thin, that during insertion it perforated easily.I was not having periods either for over a year from the nursing). The second time I had an IUD it was paraguard again. This was before Mirena was approved. My periods lasted 10 days and 7 days was so heavy I couldn't get in the shower w/out leaving a trail (sick I know). Plus I had 5 days of spotting before and after those heavy days. The doctors said the spotting was from the IUD so removed it. However I still have the spotting and I've had a D & C and ultrasounds and the hysteroscope and nothing is wrong or abnormal physically so they say its my hormones (I'm 28). The doctor sais the only thing they can do is birth control pills or the Mirena. I haven't taken birth control pills for 10 years because they make me so moody and hungry all the time. I have heard of mood problems and such w/the MIrena I was wondering how commone mood problems and weight gain are. As of now I have horrible pms that lasts 10 to 13 days each month and begins w/bloating and mood changes and appetite increase and acne. I was on paxil for the pms but it had horrible effects on my sex life. Other than that I loved it. I was hoping somewhat that if I had mirena my periods would go away totally and I woudln't have to have to deal w/all this pms and bloating and and horrible irritability and skin problems. The doctor sais they have a new pill called yasmin that doesn't make you gain weight as badly but I don't know how true that is or if it would affect my mood adversely . Ortho tricyclen is horrible and so is triphasil 28....
take care
