Re: Please don't feel sad for us...
Thats good, I like to think we can be kind to eachother! ( smile )
We fast for the same reason all pple have fasted since the beginning of time. For ( even if you don't beleive me ) our God is the God of the Old Testament and New. Jesus commanded his ppl to fast and to pray and to give charity in the Sermon of the Mount.
We have specific Holidays, we have Two. In Arabic they are called Eid.
We have the Eid Holiday after fasting the entire 9th month of the islamic calendar, that is the month of Ramadhan. This month was the month the first revelation was revealed to the Last Prophet M'hammed by Angel Gabriel, while he was in seclusion to get away from his ppl who were steeped in ignorance and had strayed from the Abrahamic Faith. He was terrified, and the Angel filled the entire horizon. Some seven hundred wings on the Archangel Gabriel were recorded, and this was when he had turned 40 years old and realized he had been chosen by God as a prophet for his ppl. He did not know how to read or write, and so the verses were inspired by Gabriel, he memorized them and then his companions wrote them down.
We fast this month and give in charity and spend the nights in worship to gain the rewards of everlasting life in Paradise and wiping the sins clean completely, God willing.
The other Eid is the celebration of Abrahams test which he won by submitting to the will of God. That was when he was told to sacrifice his only son for the sake of God, he submitted and won the test, so was blessed by God and his son was spared by the Grace of God, ALmighty. This Eid is considered the bigger of the two. And it lasts for three days, while the first Eid lasts for one, after the thirty days of fasting from dusk to dawn.
Take care- and thanks for asking.
