Faith & the Word
Romans 10:17
...faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Constant attention to the Word of God produces faith, especially if we attend to it with an open heart and mind.
Proverbs 4:20-22 encourages us to constantly keep the Word in our hearts and to keep our attention on it. Health is one of the benefits promised.
In Matthew 4:4, Jesus Himself said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."
2 Timothy 3:16-17(AMP)
16) Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action), 17) So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The Bible is the collection of God's words. God chose to communicate with us through his words. All over the Bible we read the phrase "...according to the Scriptures." One of the repeated phrases of Jesus was "It is written..." If Jesus had the Scriptures memorized, that is a good indication that Christians should memorize Scripture too.
No, we are not to have a relationship with a book, but it is the book that tells us how to live our life and have a relationship with God, our Creator.
