The Apocrypha... In particular, the Nicean Council used political might (i.e. coercion) to remove texts from the Bible with votes on whether the attendees considered the book to be "true".

Given the history of Christianity and its certainty in the evil of its own members, I hope they'll forgive me for doubting the integrity of at least some of those who voted then.

The Book of the Secrets of Enoch seems to be a favorite of students of the Apocrypha. Some day, I'm going to have to read it myself.
