Re: 7-year-old daughter

It's actually been 15 months since I posted, and my daughter is now almost 9. She is growing more hair, her Acne is much worse (face and back), but no menses yet. We took her to a specialist last summer and she was diagnosed with premature adrenarchy. This means that the adrenal hormones have kicked in (body hair, acne, Body Odor ) early. Usually the estrogen hormones start (breast development, menses), and then the adrenals kick in later.

In my daughter's case, she is adopted, and has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (mild, and also just diagnosed). I don't know her medical history in this area (onset of puberty) but she is of European descent. We are managing everything with exercise and diet at present, and are not resorting to meds. They did take a cortisol level, and apparently if it's too out of wack, they give cortisone injections. Of course I would opt against this!

Another unusual thing is weight gain. My daughter is on an extremely restricted allergy diet, which is not that high in fat, yet she has gained 15 lbs. in 6 months, all in her middle. She is not fat but another 10 lbs. and people might start noticing.
