What part of the country do you live in because yours sounds so much like mine. I had a black gnat infestation 2 1/2 years ago from a broken sprinkler head and those gnats got under my carpet, which I have since torn out, piece by piece every time my husband left the house. every day I vaccumed and they came at my chest, eyes, nose, ears and mouth. They either stung or bit me. I passed a mirror in the hallway and saw that they were landing on the back of my head. I had and still have intense scalp itching, I shave my head because the crawling is worse when the hair is poking out. I apply betadine to my scalp and it helps. If have seen in and in the mirror white bug like things flying off the top of my head.
