Re: Doctors milk dying cancer patients for every last dollar
>- Of ALL the 150,000+ cancer survivors in that study, you will find that 2 - 3% of the survival to 5 years was attributed to those who received only chemotherapy. That does not say that only 2 - 3% survived. There is a humongous difference. Read the story. Others received other forms of treatment including chemotherapy in combination with other options.
Again, you are mislead by the statistics.
In the very best cases, after the main cancer has been surgically removed, chemo is given to reduce recurrence. If 50 percent would survice without the chemo, 51 percent would survive with it. This is a 2 percent improvement.
All of this is a lie because of 2 thinga.
#1 if a cancer does not show up in 5 years, it is cured. If it shows up in the 6th year, it becomes a new cancer. If a person survives the first round, then dies the second time, OMG, that is 50 percent survival!!! WOW !!!
#2 If a person developes a different cancer due to the carcinogenicity of the chemo, oh, well, it is just a new cancer. Death is not recorded as being from chemo.
Oh, and if for some reason, someone developes dementia later, surely that has no relationship. Liver failure? Wonder hpw they got that. Kidney failure? I am so shocked. Heart attack? How sad, that person was really unhealthy. None of these would ever recorded as a result of chemo. If they die within 5 years of diagnosis or have any recurrance, they die of cancer and its complications, not a result of the chemo.
Why do the use a 5 year mortality? Because the numbers significantly decline at 6 years for the chemo patients. Why have the 5 year numbers improved in the last few years, Because we find cancer a year earlier on the average.
If you look at 2 statistics then you will get a better picture.
Statistic 1: total percentage of survivors at 10 years who did not take chemo.
Statistic 2: total percentage of survivors at 10 years who did take chemo.
Statistic 2 is way way way down compared to statistic 1. That is why they do not publish either.
