It is interesting, that you mentioned alcohol. Since I stopped beer drinking completely on the end of 2006, its effect on my weight was very little.
I have heard many people say that the beer is not to blame. The culprit is what you eat while drinking!
To me that is no problem as I avoid many snacks for their salt content mainly.
The question really is what would be too much alcohol?
Small amount of wine is considered good for the digestive system with meal!
Olives may be tolerable in fat content. I eat them as well regularly from fridge. Only one problem with them; too much salt! My trick is to pour the brine out of the bottle and replace with boiled and cooled water. Leave in the fridge for couple of days and they are right. (Just in case if you are worrying about losing the taste bud sensitivity).
