Eczema eliminated by elimination diet
By F.S.
Wanted to share our story in the hopes it may be helpful for someone else out there struggling.
Our 17mo is finally eczema free after many long months of frustration. I know that it doesn't work for everyone the same way but for those of you that have not yet tried an elimination diet, I urge you to consider it.
For the longest time I was not convinced that it was any one type of food that was triggering his flare ups. I was also not aware of the necessary way of eliminating foods completely and for more than a day or two at a time or that what I ate (as I'm breastfeeding) should effect him so greatly.
In my ignorance, I thought by avoiding most dairy and only eating the occasional butter on toast that I should be able to see results.
It was only when I stopped all dairy completely that I saw immediate results. This made the biggest initial difference but was soon obvious due to the continued irritated condition of his skin that there were more triggers.
Fast forward a few months of trials and we have discovered that in addition to dairy we need to be soy, egg, and gluten free. Our diet did feel very limiting at first but truthfully I have grown accustomed to it and have found some delicious alternatives and of course it is so worth it to see our little guy finally eczema free!
Just one more note regarding creams, our lo had one very stubborn area in his inner arm crease that wouldn't budge despite numerous creams and ointments including steroids and
Antibiotics (which helped initially only to come back worse) until I discovered this amazing cream called formula one calendulis cream. It literally helped overnight and stopped the itch in it's tracks. It's pricey but so effective and ultimately much cheaper than the dozens of creams we purchased along the way. If you've managed to get to the end of this long story I hope it was helpful!
Wishing you all beautiful baby smooth skin and eczema free days xx
