Look SoulSurvivor!!!
I like you. You are a smart person. Yet you are making excuses for these abused women I take. If you and I were having this conversation about 35 yrs ago when opportunities for women were non existant then I would be with you, no questions asked. There are too many opportunities for women these days to better themselves. You find these women putting their lives, finances, emotional health, livelihood and everything all in a man's hands so to speak. This isn't a wise thing to do. I may be off the point here. But if women want to make their lives better they will have to get up and start being more independent and stop putting their whole worth into a man only to end up abused with no wherewithall to go anywhere else or do anything.
Yes, it may be true that society and tv maybe breeding psychosis but people still have choices and free will. That means that women are going to have to start making better choices about the men they choose to spend their lives with and have their kids around. I'm hearing way too many women talking about how much they love bad boys and hate nice guys. This is part of the problem. It's these same bad boys that's bashing them upside the head. Yet they don't want a nice guy. "oh, he's too nice for me." They say. So let women start wising up and making better partner choices and I bet the domestic abuse stats will probably go down.
By the way, I don't look at Mtv or those other shows you mentioned too much. I kind of stopped looking at that stuff when I was a teenager.
