How can someone "keep their priorities objective straight" when they have no objective foundation to start with? You have ruled out The Word of God.

And what do you renew your mind with that will transform you? What do you think Paul was saying when he wrote that to the Church at Rome (RM 12:1,2).

If we don't concern ourselves about Scripture, what shall we fill our hearts and minds with? Who's definition of any answer you may use to replace Bible Doctrine should we use? If we say "we should fill our hearts and minds with LOVE", then how do we determine what the definition of love is, there are many diferent definitions of love. Can all be correct? Should we mix a little of everybodies and come up with a definition of our own? No wonder people are up one minute and down the next.
