Re: Getting off of Xanax and AF recovery failure

I was in the same nightmare. I tried to ween myself down over a one month period then took nothing for the following month. That just created the summer in hell. I was just taking 2.0 a day so my heart really goes out to you if you were up to six.
I was so frustrated and confused on why after being clean a month I felt no progress had been made. I had thought that it was like other substance recovery in that after a few days the physical part is over and its purely a mental challenge. With xanax there was never that divide, and after reading someones account of feeling that way for a year, I knew I had to find another route.
I started taking valium and tramadol so I could get some measure of a life back. I did this for a year and then I weened off (only over a couple of weeks) and have been good ever since.
This was 2008 and in that time you could order any prescriptions over internet or phone without seeing a doctor easily. I dont know if its the same now, but i was able to do this without the help of any medical professionals.
Good luck to all that are living this nightmare. I hope which ever path you choose works out.
