Not according to the leaked autopsy report and not according to friends, including Mayor Bloomberg, who said that he was overweight and unhealthy prior to his slip.  Though it is only speculation, many believe that Atkins suffered a heart attack which led to his slip.  Given the autopsy report and the report of his friends,  I don't doubt it.  Especially if he was regularly eating processed meats and other processed crap foods and skipping carbs altogether.

I briefly dated an Atkins disciple.  She lost weight as long as she stayed on the diet and invariably put it back on when she didn't.  And, thanks to her continual state of ketosis, her breath stank like raw butt. As I said, I dated her "briefly".

To each their own, I suppose, but I would not recommend the Atkins diet to my worst enemy.  Like vegetarianism, unless someone is very careful with their diet and makes sure to get nutrients they might otherwise be missing, they are setting themselves up for long term problems down the road.

I'm with you on the coconut oil, Price, Fallon, Enig, etc. though.
