I agree with you on Atkins...

>>"Some carbs are not only healthy, but pretty vital for most of us."<<

yes, however with the right kinds of fats, carbs are non-essential... fats can be broken down into them... assuming they are not processed and\or synthetic...

That said, some people are very efficient at breaking fats down into carbs... and these people generally require higher fat, protein diets than others... the obligatory omnivores I discussed in the Abortion thread that got off topic :)

Fats and carbs both are made of O, H, and C... fairly easy for the body to convert if a whole, raw, traditional source... lard, tallow, suet, olive, coconut, etc.

One cannot absorb, or utilize nutrients properly without fats... they greatly increase nutrient absorption - and provide hormones and hormone precursors, (vitamin D) etc.

This is where Atkins and others (and not just those touting the Atkins diet) such as himself failed miserably IMO; I believe he pushed canola oil for one... quality, raw, whole traditionally used and consumed fats, ditching the canola, soy, etc., would have made a whole world of difference... as would have the protein and carb (low Sugar vegetables) sources.
