Re: Blastocystis Hominis Nitazoxanide/Furazolidone/Secnidazole cocktail therapy

I just wanted to say that I have now taken the triple drug cocktail, plus the doxycycline that Jackie D. recommended in addition because I have a B. Hominis + D. Fragilis co-infection.

I ordered the drugs online at Medsmex, except for the doxycycline which I talked a Canadian doctor into prescribing. Obtaining the drugs was a bit of a challenge because individuals cannot ship medication over the border. Thankfully they could be shipped to the US and I live only a couple of hours from the US border, so I set up a mailbox in the US and had them sent there. It meant 2 or 3 trips, but it was worth it.

I took the last of it a week ago. The first 2 days I didn't feel too bad, but after that I felt very nauseous and headachy and had bright red diarrhea, which has been constant. My insomnia was much worse than normal. I tried to be sipping on a mug of herbal tea at all times to keep myself hydrated and to flush the drugs through. (Cold water feels painful so I don't drink cold water). In spite of feeling sick just thinking about food, I found that if I forced myself to eat, I felt better. On day 3 I took a heavy duty laxative as per Jackie's suggestion. On day 8 I also went for colon hydrotherapy, which was quite amazing - the headache and nausea actually disappeared for 2 days afterward. I had a second colon hydrotherapy treatment 5 days post-medication as well, and will go for a 3rd treatment some time over the next few weeks.

I managed to work every day except day 4 (thankfully I have a desk job). On days 9 & 10 I actually participated in a kayaking course. I knew we were staying close to shore and that I could take a break whenever I needed to. I became exhausted easily and couldn't do much, but it was something I was really wanting to do and I'm glad I did it in spite of how tired it made me.

It has been a week since I finished the medications. I almost feel like the drugs are gone from my system, although I still have nasty diarrhea. I'm still exhausted all the time, especially if I try to exercise, but I think this is from the parasites rather than the drugs. I know it will take me a few months to recover once the parasites are gone.

My friends are asking if the parasites gone. I have no idea. I do feel slightly better now than before I took the drugs. I will get tested in 3 weeks, then twice more at 2 week intervals. I'm taking some professional quality probiotics - I figure it will help build my system if the parasites are gone, and if they're not, the probiotics will ensure the parasite population is high enough to show up on the tests. I figure I'll know for sure in about 3 months.

Just wanted to report back in case anyone is interested in my experience. I'll report back again after I've been tested.
