Re: New theory,
I don't believe YOU have a problem since you can drink occasionally; it's not an addiction with you. Probably your earlier escapades were just youth "acting out". But I hoped to reach those with a real problem. I think we spend a lot of time blaming ourselves for not being strong or spiritual enough when it's turning out that alot of issues considered emotional/psychological are actually biological.
I recently had a friend die of liver failure due to alcoholism, but I don't believe it was because he was "weak" or non-spiritual....his brain was missing something he needed.
I hate to see so many people blaming themselves for what is likely a physical cause. Frankly, the more I learn about how our bodies work, the more I'm convinced there is a biological reason for everything. Why does alcohol claim so many people's lives when the majority can take it or leave it? It can't be lack of control, since MOST people don't have the uncontrollable need for alcohol. Just like some have bad acne, MS, whatever...there is a physical cause. Not realizing this continues to make it a social stigma instead of the health problem we know it to be, keeping us in the dark ages. Obviously, there is something more at work here than we know the answer to.
