Re: I would love to have support. What is your experiencing with fasting?

Day 30 - Accomplishment

Well, I have finished the 30 day Water Fast successfully. I'm not sure about the spirtual enlightenment some people describe, but I felt well enough and happy to have accomplished what I set out to do. I'm sorry I didn't lose more weight, but pleased with what I did lose. I'm also very happy with the new perspectives I gain into my relationship with food and what cues induce me to eat when I probably shouldn't. Right now, I feel like I could continue this fast indefinitely, but I am going to stop and ease back into a healthy Diet anyway just because I want to be cautious about how much of my body's reserves get consumed while fasting.

I am also very happy with the other health benefits I have observed. After going through a rather cranky, fuzzy headed period in the first week, I achieved a reasonable somewhat low energy plateau from which fasting was quite easy. I observed my blood pressure decline from approx 150-170/130 marginally controlled with medication to 112/83 without medication. I had been waking up 2-3 times per night (every night) to use the bathroom, but am now sleeping through the night. My dark circles under the eyes are not gone, but they are greatly reduced and I feel less tired in the morning when I wake up. I have taken my belt in three notches, though I do not yet fit in the next smaller size clothes I used to wear. This may also be an interesting commentary on how much I was squeezing into the "fat size" clothes I have been wearing. I am able to walk down stairs normally, instead of only putting one leg down, then catching up to that stair followed by advancing with the same leg again. My belly button, which had been sticking out in an odd kind of way, has returned to it's usual shape. I do wish I had lost more weight, but am happy with the jump start to losing weight this has provided.

All in all, this has been a very worthwhile journey and I appreciate the support everyone here has shown. Even just knowing that I was going to write a short statement every day that someone might read was a useful support for me.

Thank you all.
