it might be okay---3lac

i believe they are completely dormant when packaged. i think the lemon powder and the yeast might give them something to munch on after they are hydrated. also, it may help to absorb moisture which is bad for the bacteria in storage -- dry is better which is why they individually wrap them.

it is possible that these strains are decent. in fact, i am fairly certain that the product makes its way through. But colonizing is a different story-- that is not easy.

i know the bacteria made it through because i had bad gas and a lot of activity the first 2 days. i also had this with the VSL#3, and i was told to expect that from the VSL#3. ...and it happened.

probiotics are a very confusing subject. it can be very difficult to get them to colonize. a lot of them are transient. Vsl#3 only works when you take it. people start getting symptoms after 3 days of non-use. however, most probiotics barely make a difference that is why the VSL#3 patients can so readily notice a difference when they quit.

one leading theory is that the probiotic works by modulating the immune system. they can have a beneficial effect on the enterochromafin cells which keep proinflammatory mediator release from occurring.
