Re: Update #3
No problem at all!
You say "go out" and get some echinacea...and that raises a serious red flag here. Unless your local health food stores sells Herb Pharm products (which many do) or
Dr. Schulze tinctures (which barely any do), you're likely to get a VERY weak, toxic-laden tincture or product.
I NEVER know the knowledge-level of any new acquaintance on the 'net, so please forgive me if I'm about give you information that seems remedial (or an insult to your intelligence).
Here's the deal: there's only about 10 small natural pharmacies in the whole world that create strong, effective tinctures or capsules using organic/wild-crafted herbs following the centuries old procedures for making them. #1 They use imported herbs (and almost all imported herbs come from China, India, Mexico & Eastern European countries)...all of which allow & encourage the use of extreme amounts of pesticides & herbicides (including the neurotoxin & carcinogen DDT). (These herbs are collected at virtually any time during their growth cycle, and generally handled all the way through the process by migrant/slave-type/prison workers who know nothing about when to pick herbs for their best natural properties or even how to identify them properly). Then when 'on the shipping docks' coming into this country, they are (by law) required to be doused with pesticides (and most are also irradiated). #2 Then these herbs are ground & powdered in high-heat kilns, virtually assuring there's little 'life' or healing 'goodies' left in them. #3 Then they're tinctured by putting them in a gizmo similar to a huge coffee maker/filter and alcohol is poured over them (maybe they let it steep a few hours, maybe not). The resulting fluid is bottled and sold as a tincture. If they run the liquid back through the filter, they call that 'double tinctured'. Or the dried, powdered herbs are stuffed into capsules.
Needless to say, the end-result is laden with toxins and somewhere between 80-98% LESS effective than what it should be. ARGH.
An effective tincture is made with organically grown/wild-crafted herbs, picked at the peak of their growth for production of 'goodies' for that particular plant. It is made with 100 proof alcohol (at least) and is steeped for at least 2 weeks.
How can you tell what your getting? Any company that uses organic herbs and correct tincturing methods will say so. Those that don't, say all kinds of things about how their products are scientifically tested, analyzed (and all other sorts of gobbledygook and double-talk).
I hate to "name names" but since his death, Dr. Christophers products are now produced with imported herbs, and even some of the most trusted names in natural health do the same. It's all about greed & profit (just like in the allopathic world). It's not about what works, but bottom line profit.
Be careful...it's a JUNGLE out there!
