carbuncle

I have a huge nasty carbuncle on my back that started causing me a great deal of pain last week. It refuses to produce a head, even with long soaks in Epsom Salts , Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide. It has gotten bad enough, causing a great deal of pain, that I have made an appointment with the doctor to have it lanced. What I would like to know is, what alternatives to the Antibiotics the doctor will hand me to prevent infection?

I was thinking diluted Grapefruit-Seed-Extract for washing the wound and lots of garlic and ginger in my food for a few days. Anything else?

I have heard that these things can wreck havoc once lanced if an infection spreads into the blood etc.
