Thanks Uni... your note really helped me. I was more or less at my rope end and hated to give into the AB, but did not know what else to do, and did not feel I had the time to investigate further... at any rate I hope I can discontinue the AB a few days after the thing is removed.

He did say (and has had one of these himself) that these things form a pus pocket, and if you do not get the whole pocket out (not just a piece or two), they can reform at any time to cause you grief again... I know my grandfather had these and he just got his lanced over and over again. I have also read some stuff and it looks like he could be right. He said the one he had would continually grow back until one of his colleagues educated him about the "pus pocket" or "lima bean type bladder that contains the pus" as he called it.

At any rate, whether it is the antibiotic, or very strong probiotic I am taking, the thing continues to shrink and that is a good thing; the smaller it gets, the less of a hole I will have in my back.
