Re: Going to heaven when we die.
Yes, we must remember that we cannot work for our salvation. It is a gift from God if we choose to receive it.
Having said that we must remember that is no excuse for us to not to work for Him after receiving our gift. There is much to be said in the Bible about this to the point that if we refuse to obey Christ we are refusing to follow Christ which is verifying that we were not really saved in the first place. Some only wanted eternal life. Some did not want Christ. Some just wanted to use His name for their own purposes. Some have given Christ lip service thinking that will save them, but in the end He will not accept lip service for salvation. They will hear Him say some day "depart from Me" unless they wake up before it is too late.
Works come after salvation. Some are willing to work a lot harder than others so they may receive more of God. The Bible says that if we draw close to God, He will draw close to us. For us to draw close to God may take some work and discipline, but the rewards will be worth it. What greater thing is there in this world than to be close to God. Some are closer to God than others. You can be as close to God as you are willing to work on drawing close to Him according to the Bible. I do believe there are far away from God Christians that are just too lazy to put effort into getting close to Him and, yes, I believe they are saved, maybe they will have the smell of smoke as they enter heaven. Of course, there are many that are so far away from God that they are not even saved. We are all at different levels.
