Cecil Rhodes
Here’s one for you, there are protests about getting rid of Cecil Rhodes statue but no one is protesting at stoping the Cecil Rhodes scholarship which is open to all backgrounds who qualify, why is that? Why would anyone want Cecil Rhodes money but not his statue?
Here’s another one, Zimbabwe former Rhodesia - a wealthy nation ruined, why is that? That nation should be wealthy not poor. Some of those African countries should be wealthy, diamond mines for instance. There’s no doubt that corruption has played a part in some of those countries keeping their people poor, would you want to live there? Or would you want the land of milk and honey as that is what some people from other lands believe.
Rich people who profited from slaves contributed money to society but it was the industrial revolution that made this country great and well before that. The workers leaving the countryside for the cities often working in terrible conditions and very low paid and treated badly. Our forefathers suffered greatly to make this country great. Yes the people who got rich from slavery contributed to this nation a lot but it was the people of the nation and great minds like Isambard Kingdom Brunel and many others, we were the first industrialised country in the world built on the back of back breaking work. There was no benefit system those days, you worked, starved or went to the work house, God help you if you were born disabled.
