The one that I use is called triphala, this is an ayurvedic supplement and is very effective, does not cause dependence you can go on and off it as you like. There are many other herbs, now I am looking into the lower bowel balance and will be trying this one soon. You should not develop a dependence on any of these herbal products because what they do is to actually balance the bacterial populations in the intestine. 99% of people have bowels that are not functioning properly so they need to take herbs to correct this. What will happen when you stop taking these herbs? Chances are with most people they will revert back to their previous bowel health, maybe they will keep a slight improvement over what they had previously, but the problem is our bowel health is SO unhealthy that you really have to continue taking the herbs (for many people maybe for life) unless you are able to become one of the rare few people that are in perfect health then you will not have to take any herbs at all. According to me, you are severely constipated. Having one bowel movement a day is moderate constipation, this would be me and many other people. You will have to take higher doses of herbs than people who are just moderately constipated.
