A set length of time for a break might be useful in the beginning, when you're learning how iodine affects you. But even better is to check in with yourself and discover what you need on an ongoing basis. Sometimes you don't need a break, you can plunge ahead. Sometimes you need a break, but 48 hours isn't enough, because before when you plunged on ahead you went too far and now you need a week off :) LOL There are so many variables. Listen to your body, and it will trust you to act on what it tells you. Then the information will keep flowing. Best wishes!
