Re: Meditation - Have you Tried It?

I'm going to have a hard time explaining this, but I hope some of you can understand it...

It seems that certain kinds of meditation (at least mindfulness meditation) train your brain to be able to not react to emotional stimuli. The part of your brain that's responsible for these kinds of reactions is the link between your amygdalae and your hypothalamus, the start of the stress system (limbic(amygdalic) - hypothalamic - pituitary - adrenal axis). So, meditation can help you to change how your reactivity is regulated by training you to have non-reaction.

Your significant other nags you about the same old problem yet again and your response is instant irritation? As an Adrena Fatigue sufferer, maybe your response is closer to rage?

Or, after meditation training, your significant other nags you and you keep your reaction in abeyance, you keep your reaction suspended. You instead take the moment to consider why they are bringing up the matter, what they are thinking, and what elements of truth or hyperbole are in what they're saying. Equanimity. Mental composure and stability. Calm. Instead of rage and stress hormones.

Meditation is a good way to reprogram your brain to not be overreactive.
